CHALLENGE
create a variable typeface designed for various display and branding purposes that’ll make an impact on one’s memory
OVERVIEW

To possess clout essentially means to possess power, fame, and influence. Klout, on the other hand, is a variable serif typeface inspired by its counterpart, all while embodying the essence of unique fashion and high stature— and it will push brands for exactly that.

The unique characteristics of Klout will leave an imprint on one’s memory, so it is perfect for establishing brand identity. Klout is a dynamic opentype variable font with a fancy parameter, which will allow the typeface to achieve such in a large variety of ways. The typeface will strive in the digital world as the contrast and flares can not only be set differently to each user's needs, but can also accommodate for kinetic identities. Klout can also be equally as breath-taking venturing off screen into the physical world to be used in packaging or editorial pieces.

SPECIMEN

Klout consists of OpenType features (with many more to come) to truly allow the potential of every letter to shine in their own 'swashful' way! There are also three beautiful ligature pairings that push the appearance variability of each word even further, truly giving each their own identity.

If you peep my personal logo at the top left of the screen, you can see it in action— it's set in this typeface!

PERSONALITY

One of Klout’s defining features are its angled shoulders and bowls; this characteristic sets it apart from the rest, abling it to be perfect for establishing brand identity and making a statement.[1]

Extra spurs allude to italicised fonts without needing to be one to further its unique, chic designer look. [2]

Angled serif stems is another key characteristic that delivers flare and poise. [3] This trait is carried over to finials to ensure that every letter holds specialty to their own. [4]

With the fancy parameter, the user can control the contrast that best suits their needs. Along with the contrast, the bottom of the stems— such as in the letters h, d, and m— form a flared end to replace where a serif would normally be found. [5]

Klout has very large and circular terminals which accentuate the large contrast between thick and thin. [6]

High contrast strokes grab readers’ attention and gives the type a sense of elegance, making it simple enough to work for many things, but still stylistic enough to make an impression. [7]
